GREETINGS
Our next 25 years is off to a great start with wonderful  Spring weather.  With all of the challenges in aviation, i.e. weather, fuel prices, insurances, the economy, we like to take the opportunity to celebrate successes and milestones.  We just partied for the 25th; April 28th was 43 years that Dick Nierenberg entered the aviation business; and now we are looking forward to 2011, when the site of Princeton Airport began as an airport.  So if you have ideas how to celebrate that biggy, let us know.

This newsletter is packed with lots of information so read on to the bottom.

A SPECTACULAR 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

We want to thank you, our customers and friends, for joining us to celebrate our 25 years at Princeton Airport.  With your help, we made Princeton Airport what it is today.  This occasion also gave us all an opportunity to have a wonderful first hand experience with our official caterer, Max Hansen.

It was good to get together with long time old friends and customer as well as those of you who have joined us more recently.  The food was diverse, delicious, and beautifully presented.  The live three piece band provided music for listening and dancing.

The hangar was unrecognizable for us who know its prime function.  It was transformed into an elegant party hall with drapery and lighting.

A recent phone call from area resident, Duncan MacQueen, yielded some fascinating facts about the early days of Princeton Airport.  This picture is about a National Guard flight of 10 Jennys.

NATIONAL LEARN TO FLY DAY

 Saturday, May 15th
10 am - 4 pm

Throughout the country airports and flight schools are participating with Learn to Fly Day with presentations about how this is a "Life Changing Experience".  We will have a power point in the lounge every hour.  If you know someone who has been thinking about this, have them sign up as we want to assure space.

NOTE:  If you recommend a person to Princeton and he/she enrolls, our policy is to give you a free hour  in a C-152 or its equivalent in fuel or credit.

 STAFF ADDITIONS & LOSSES
Best wishes to flight coordinator, Mike Elliot, who is now working in the field in which he earned his degree - psychology. Mike was with us through his last years at Rutgers.

Ryan Kenny has moved on to a corporation and we wish him well.  We tried to contact all of Ryken's students, however if we missed you, please call us and we will reassign you to another instructor.

We welcome back CFII Dean Tzitsis, who work here in the summer of 2008.  He brings with him experience and he is familiar with our syllabus.  He's off and running.

TAKE FLIGHT

 at
McCarter Theater, Princeton

Lift your spirits with this stirring new musical that takes flying, creativity, and American invention to new heights. Take Flight melds fact and fiction to tell the interweaving stories of three pioneers of aeronautics: the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart. As their dreams become reality, these aviators discover the real costs of their sky-high ambitions. With style and panache, this lush musical delves to the core of the American experience.

 SAFETY CORNER

Keeping current and on top of your piloting skills is a challenge for most pilots.  The pressures of work, family, and finances have an effect on the amount of flight time each of us can get each month.

One way of structuring your practice time is to use the Practical Test Standards for the certificate you hold.  When you are preparing for the Biennial Review, remember that the instructor/examiner is going to use your certificate level as his/her standard to evaluate your skills.

For example, for the Private Pilot, the Steep Turns standards state a 45° bank, +/- 100 feet, +/- 10 knots, bank +/- 10° and roll out on the entry heading, +/- 10°.

Take time to practice those maneuvers you perfected at one time to achieve your certificate.  Keep ALL your skills sharp so you can be a proud, confident, and safe pilot.

PRINCETON AIRPORT
FLYING TIGERS

Spring means changeable weather and PAFT fell victim to rain and low ceilings for April's scheduled fly-in to Hamilton, New York on April 25th.  But PAFT members take that kind of set-back in stride and will depart for Hamilton on May 2nd to (predicted) fantastic sunshine and temps in the low 80s.  The Wednesday, May 12 PAFT dinner meeting will feature guest speaker Bill Fili who flew 34 combat missions in a B-24 Liberator in WWII. And rounding out May's events, PAFT members will tour of the Intrepid Sea-Air-Land Museum in Manhattan on Sunday, May 23.  June will kick off with a theater event on Saturday, June 5 to see Take Flight at McCarter Theater in Princeton.

PAFT is a social organization with membership open to anyone interested in aviation - you do not have to be a pilot or own an airplane.  For complete information about PAFT, visit www.paft-nj.org.
