 AVGAS SELF SERVICE
FINALLY COMPLETED!
We took longer then planned, however it is up and running.  If you don't want to wait for our lineman or if you need fuel after hours, our new facility awaits you.  It's not hard to use and the price is the same as we give to base customers.
OH HAPPY DAY!

Pete & Erik

Everyone was smiling when Flight Coordinator, Erik Lindberg graduated to Certified Flight Instructor Lindberg.  Chief Pilot, Peter Rafle was pleased to welcome Erik to the instructing staff.  We are wasting no time putting him on the schedule, as many have been waiting for additional instructing staff.  Good job, Erik.

FORMER STUDENT OFF TO SPACE STATION
WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!

When reading The Star Ledger with the morning coffee, I happened to read an article about a New Jersey astronaut, NASA Codr. Ken Ham.  It referenced Ken's early love of flying and that he got his Private Pilot's license before graduating high school in Clark.

This name was very familiar as we taught a Ken Ham when Raritan Valley Flying School was at Kupper (47N) in the '80s.  So I went to our archives and sure enought, he got his Private Pilot's license with us in June, 1983, and had soloed on March 20, 1982.  His father drove him to the airport as he was too young to drive.

Ken went on to the Naval Academy, and the rest is history.  Ken is serving as captain on the NASA mission to the International Space Station.  Launch was scheduled to lift off on May 31st.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT AIRCRAFT OWNERSHIP,
BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK!

What obligations do I have when I own a plane?
     Partnerships
     Insurance * Maintenance * Storage

AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF.

DATE:  Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

TIME:  7:00 P.M.

PLACE:  PILOTS' LOUNGE

SPEAKER:  KEN NIERENBERG
Ken has been selling airplanes since he was a teenager.  His network of friends throughout the country, allows him to find exactly what you want or need, if we don't have it in stock.  He is also a licensed insurance broker, so he can explain the unique issues when dealing with aviation. So if this is something you are thinking about doing now or in the future, pick his brain for answers.

COOLEST AIRPLANE OF THE MONTH

 Buffett Caravan
This Cessna Caravan on floats towered over
the other aircraft on the ramp, when singer Jimmy Buffet visited us last month.

A HEARTY WELCOME TO AIR TRANSPORT, A CHARTER OPERATION!

One of the last services missing from the Princeton Airport family of aviation services has been a viable fixed wing charter service.  Ed & Sharon Kwoka have moved into an office upstairs.  Their fleet will include a King Air, Navaho, and a Seneca.  If you or anyone you know needs to travel in style, call:

Do you remember  "P" factor from your early training?  There are three left turning forces acting on the airplane:  Gyroscopic effect, slipstream, and "P" factor.  "P" factor is caused by the upward tilting of the propeller plane of rotation increasing the angle of attack of the downward moving blade.  Since the propeller is moving clockwise (as viewed from the cockpit), the right side of the propeller rotational plane exerts more lift than the left side.

This effect is evident on each takeoff rotation, and in the flare on landing.  Stay alert for the nose to want to drift left on takeoff and landing.  Anticipate with Right Rudder to keep the airplane going straight down the runway.

Safe flying.

FLYING TIGERS

It was an enjoyable May meeting for the 23 attendees at the local restaurant, Ya Ya Noodles. Not only was there good food and company, but our speaker gave us great information about the noises our planes generate and the gear we use to protect our hearing.

The plan to go to Newport, RI for the May Fly-in had to be modified due to weather.  The 3 planes and  eight members enjoyed the flight to Lumberton, NJ and the restaurant at the Flying W airport (N14).

So if you are looking for a great trip for some sun and good food join us on the June 22nd fly-in to Block Island, RI (KBID) hosted by Paul Stephens.  We are hoping the weather will be with us this time, considering our recent record.  So go to our website www.paft-nj.org  to sign up and while your there enjoy the great information and entertainment.

Also remember to sign up for our picnic to be held on July 6th at Princeton Airport.

WELCOME NEW STAFF

With Erik Lindberg moving to the classroom, we are happy to welcome Nicole Misercordia, who is a full time flight coordinator.  Joining her is Ali Tartukoff, who will be working during the summer and hopefully, part time when she returns to college.

Chris Herte, who earned his Private Pilot license here, has returned from Florida for the summer and is helping with line and sprucing the place up 39N.

Steve Stokes has joined the line staff full time, however the mechanics enjoy his talents, so he's in the shop more than on the field

WELCOME ALL

Every year at this time the birds around the airport look for airplanes idle just long enough to let them build a nest.  During your pre-flight inspections, be alert for the signs that birds are attempting to start a family.  Droppings on the propeller and cowling, straw and sticks on the ground and stuck in any available opening in the cowling and tail, are sure signs of nest building.  Make the effort to look inside the cowling on top of the cylinders for nest building.  Also, nests have been found in the elevator and around the rudder.
Remove any materials you find.  If you can not get it all out, notify the flight desk. Don't take a chance on engine over heating and, fire.
