 GREETINGS,

Well, what do you write after a month of rain and/or clouds.  Mother Nature is telling us something.  But we all hope for VFR days to come.

Despite the weather we did accomplish a few things, mainly you will see an almost new fuel truck here to service your craft.  This should be a much more reliable vehicle than the two trucks that were on their last legs (or wheels).

Another service we have added is to have a mechanic available on Saturdays.  If something is not quite right with your aircraft when you are planning to fly, this should help you get back in the air.
39N LogoHAPPY FATHER'S DAY - DICK!
What better present can a family give to Dick Nierenberg than an almost  much new fuel truck.  For year he and the staff have patched the two crippled vehicles which were literally on their last gasps.

So Ken scouted something almost new.  At the Father's day barbecue, granddaughter Gabrielle drove it to the picnic with brothers James & Jack on top.  Dick was truly surprised, and relieved that so much effort will not be expended to keep our services going.

THE BRITS ON TOURBritish Flag

First we'd like to apologize to all regular renters of N493RM and N680SP for stealing your planes. I'm sure that you would agree however that we do make good use of them when we have them.

This is the second year that 'The Brits' have come to Princeton and hired two C172's. The four of us are all members of The Bristol Aero Club in Bristol, UK and normally fly PA28's scooting under the clouds at 2000 feet! So it's nice to fly higher, something and somewhere different. This year we flew over ten hours each and visited over seventeen different airfields.

I recently wrote about avoiding birds while flying.  That article was in response to the great interest in bird strikes aver the USAir ditching in the Hudson River.  But, there are a lot of birds around the airport that you would enjoy watching or, at least, knowing what there are called - while avoiding them.  So I have a list of some of our local birds for you bird watchers.
American Robin - The familiar bird with the dark grey back and brick red breast
Eastern Bluebird - Larger than a sparrow; a blue bird with a rusty red breast
Blue Jay - Showy, noisy, blue bird with a crest.  Bold white spots on wings and tail, with black necklace.
American Crow - Large chunky, ebony bird, bill and feet strong and black.  Gregarious.
Starling - Gregarious, short tailed blackbird, heavily speckled.
Common Grackle - Large iridescent blackbird with long wedge shaped tail

A FOND FAREWELL TO JON RINKO, who has worked as a Flight Coordinator for almost three years.  Jon has been attending college part-time since he began with us, and he is finally wrapping up his studies in finance.  We wish him all good luck and we hope to see him return to the skies as soon as his schedule allows.  We will miss you.

INTERESTING INFORMATION - Our long time friend and pilot, Dan Bellware, fabricates those fancy railings you see in large buildings.  Well, Dan is responsible for constructing and installing the railing that will go up The Statue of Liberty into the crown.

GROUND SCHOOLS- If you are interested in a Private and/or Instrument ground school class, please sign up at the front desk, or you can call 609-921-3100. When we have a dozen students, we will begin another class.

The SAFETY CORNER

All pilots are encouraged to use Flight Following when conducting cross country flights.
This real time monitoring of the flight has many obvious          advantages.  It is important to understand the limitations and the capabilities of ATC when conducting flight following operations.  Among the services ATC can provide the pilot are:
Traffic advisories.  (The pilot is still primarily responsible
for traffic avoidance while in VMC)
Vectors to help the aircraft avoid observed traffic Altitude
deviation information of 300 feet or more from an assigned
     altitude.

STEPHEN SOZIO
16th BIRTHDAY SOLO
On June 20th, another very rainy day, a very large crowd gathered on the ramp under a sea of umbrellas - the occasion was that Stephen Sozio was planning to solo on his birthday.  The only thing going his way was the visibility remained clear.  So Assistant Chief Shannon Wea and Stephen took two circuits around the pattern and then Shannon let him go.  His audience was attentive and very supportive, and another 16th year old soloed on his birthday, making it three so far on 2009.

FLYING TIGERS

In June we had our Fly-In in low VFR weather.  Three planes made the Fly-In, but only one plane made it to the scheduled airport - Millville, while the other 2 planes took a more weather friendly ride to Lancaster.  The weather for our picnic was much better however with 40 members and guests enjoying the afternoon with great food, good conversation and stiff athletic competition.  Congratulations to our 2009 champions (Horseshoes - Igal Gershman and grandson Ben, Basketball - Morena Gazdowicz (had a good coach), Golf- Steve Anasiewicz).

Don't miss the July 19th Fly-In to Block Island (KBID) hosted by Paul Stephens for a day of fun in the sun.  On August 3rd we are planning the NY TRACON tour.  We have already reached our limit of 15 members and are taking wait list names in case there are cancellations.  Visit www.paft-nj.org to sign up for theses events and other interesting aviation items.

P.S.  Special thanks to Ralph Baron - Dick said the chicken was great.
