GREETINGS

Summer is officially here with warm weather and thunder storms.  Activity at the airport has increased with many new faces joining the aviation community at 39N.

A WORK IN PROGRESS.  Please pardon our appearance up front as the flight school office is being remodeled.  We are trying to accomplish that while still conducting business - not an easy task.  And to those of you who had to do their enrollment paperwork on boxes, bear with us.  We hope this will make us more efficient and accommodating.

While cleaning this office, we reviewed our Lost & Found.  Some items have been with us a very long time.  Missing eye glasses, keys, etc.?

When we have finished up front, we will attack Dick's office.  We will probably find relics of early aviation in there.
                                                                               Happy Flying!

ERIK LINDBERG HEADS WEST
Guru Dick Nierenberg & Erik Lindberg share many aviation stories before the day began at 39N.

Practically everyone at the airport knows Erik as he has worked here about four years.  As a commerical pilot he was behind the counter as a flight coordinator while studying to become a flight instructor.  Practically every newsletter had his name attributed to the achievements of at least one of his students.

Erik is heading to the state of Washington where he'll continue flying and enjoy the terrain from the air and ground.  We wish him the best.  Thanks.

WELCOME NEW STAFF & RETURNING ONE, TOO

Welcome back, Chris Herte, who has worked summers here as a flight oordinator, lineman, and now a commercial pilot.  In the fall he will return to Florida to college.

Due to the departure of one instructor and the increased activity in the flight school we welcome two CFIIs to our full time staff.  John Baston hails from training and teaching in Florida and he already has a lot of students.

Sean Zipprich hails from Staten Island with flight training in the northeast.  Both of these gentlemen have been instructing and are up and ready to teach here.

Welcome.
Bicycling Around The World

One lovely June day John Suscovich rode his bicycle to the airport for an airplane ride.  When we got to talking, we found out that he is a lighting technician for television, specifically for the Howard Stern Show.  His contract is coming to the end, so he and his girlfriend are planning to cycle around the world, promoting FOODCYCLIST.COM.

They will be cycling through New England and in April 2011, they will go around the world, promoting organic gardening.

From the Right Seat by Chief Pilot Peter Rafle

When approaching an uncontrolled field, tune in the Unicom frequency as early as possible to monitor the traffic.  Over the years, I have become very suspicious of the position reporting of the other aircraft.  Pilots can erroneously report their position 180˚ from where they actually are.  i.e.: The pilot is approaching from the east, but reports that he is "6 miles west of the field".  Keep a sharp visual scan for all traffic and confirm with other aircraft if you suspect something does not sound right.  Enter on a 45˚ entry to the downwind so that you have a good view of the traffic in the pattern. Make all the position calls, so that everyone else knows where you are.

FLYING TIGERS

Changeable weather forced the June fly-in to be rescheduled to the last Sunday of the month.  But when the Tigers got there, the beaches at Montauk, Long Island (KMTP) provided an opportunity to get some relief from the heat wave.  July's fly-in information will be posted soon; check http://www.paft-nj.org/PAFT_NEXT_FLY-IN_INFO.htm for the destination.

This year many PAFT members will be traveling or on vacation at the end of June so instead of the traditional summer picnic, we'll have a Fall event.  Details will be worked out at the September dinner meeting http://www.paft-nj.org/PAFT_NEXT_MTG_INFO.htm

Want to know more information about the Flying Tigers?  Are you thinking about joining or would like to be a guest at an event or meeting a good place to start is the home page on our Web site http://www.paft-nj.org/All that is required to join is an interest in aviation.
