GREETINGS,
As we head into September, our leisurely lifestyle of summer returns to the busy schedules of autumn.  We have enjoyed spectacular flying weather and many of the students made real progress in their training.  Once again Princeton  Airport will be the hosting venue for a wonderful Antiques & Fine Arts Show.  Whether you are an antique buff or just want to see how an airport hangar can be transformed, you should mark you calendar.

Monthly MEET N' GREET39N Logo

When:  Saturday, Sept. 6th
Where:  Pilots' Lounge
Time:  10:00 am - noon

WHY - WHY NOT?
What is the next best thing that pilots like to do, after flying - talk about flying.  Share your aviation experiences with other pilots, student pilots, and "wanna be" pilots.  Perhaps you want to share your flying adventures with someone; perhaps share the expense of a flight; maybe you are having hard times now and can't continue flying, but you sure can enjoy the airport.  Let's have some good ole' "hangar flying".  Join us.

Fegedaboutit!

Maybe it is the Yankee in me, but there is a radio call that bothers me.  It is one I hear frequently as a transient aircraft is about to enter the 39N pattern.  It goes something like this,
"Princeton traffic, you have a Bonanza 3 miles to the north for landing."

My initial reaction is that this is another aggressive pilot assuming that I will take responsibility for his arriving airplane.  My next thought is why can't pilots just use standard phraseology for radio calls.

I do not "have" his airplane until I see it.  Why not just call, "Princeton traffic, Bonanza, 3 miles north for landing." This call has five fewer words!  Less air time, less distraction to airplanes  already in the pattern.  It sounds really professional.

Try to keep your transmissions short and concise.  Listen before broadcasting and then tell the rest of us where you are, what you are going to do, and that you acknowledge other airplanes in the pattern when in sight.

PRINCETON AIRPORT
FLYING TIGERS
It was a great day for the August 17th Fly-In to York, PA.  The 3 planes and 7 members enjoyed the food and company.  The only thing that could have made it more fun would have been better participation from our members.   So let's get up in the air and try to make it to our Sept. 21st Fly-In to Columbia County (1B1), NY, hosted by member Raj Soni.

Also do not miss our September 10 meeting hosted by Jeanette Voight at the Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Manville, NJ.  Jeanette has gone way to schedule 2 speakers; Bob Eberly (PHL  ATC support specialist) will talk about flying in the Philadelphia Class B air space and  John Calla will give us an overview of light Sport Aircraft.  Don't miss it!  Jeanette knows how to throw a party.

Our club needs your participation to make our events memorable for all, including you.  Sign up below. New members are welcome.

There are several new faces wandering around these days.  Ann Marie Seidel will be leaving to pursue employment in psychology which she studied the last few years.  She will be working up the road at Carrier Clinic.  Roger Mitchell left to study at University of Miami.

So we welcome Will Bodnar and Mike Elliot, both students at Rutgers and they will be helping you when needed.

Joining our instruction staff is CFI Brian Konsko who will be working full time, alleviating some of the load to other instructors.

So we finally have enough instructors to schedule lessons in a timely fashion.  If you need one, contact the office and we will assign one to you based upon your needs.  Please do not switch instructors without speaking with the management.

PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL

 Now organzing!

CFII Shannon Wea will teach a 13 week course which will supplement you reading.  You will take Stage Exams together; the final exm together; and hopefully after the 13 weeks you are ready to take the FAA computer exam.

Tell us the day of the week that's best for you and we will find a mutually agreeable day and get started.

OUR WONDERFUL SIGHTS39N Logo

A student pilot was visiting relatives in the area and requested an instructor to fly up the New York City corridor.  He forgot his camera, so we lent him one.  This was one of his pictures - just a bit different from Montana, where he lives.
Some of you have never flown this spectacular flight - if you need help, you can take an instructor along for reassurance.  Don't miss this local opportunity in your back  yard.
SAFETY CORNER:  "NEAR MISS"

Recently there was a near tragic incident at the airport.  A student was taking off on Runway 10.  He made his takeoff radio call and began to roll.  An arriving aircraft, which had left earlier in the day when the winds had favored 28, entered the base and a final for 28.  The student looked up saw the airplane on short final and aborted the takeoff and got off the runway before the imminent collision.

How could this happen?

-The student did not have the correct frequency in the radio, so his call was not heard by the arriving airplane.
-The student did not fully understand how to operate the radio panel in this particular airplane.
-The arriving airplane never checked the wind sock nor scan the runway for traffic.
-The arriving pilot just assumed that the winds were the same as when he left.
-The arriving pilot made all the necessary calls but relied only on what he heard, not what was actually happening on the ground.

Always scan the field while flying downwind.  Check the wind sock.  Look at the runway and taxiway for traffic.  Scan the pattern for other airplanes.  Focus on the job of safely flying the airplane while seeing and avoiding other airplanes in the air and on the ground.
