2011 is bringing yet another weather phenomenon to New Jersey with the name of Irene.  Prior to her arrival every effort was made to secure as much as possible.  Other than loosing power for a while, the airport did not make headlines.  Many employees and customers could not make their way to the airport with the severe flooding and downed trees, so it was very quiet.  Every inch of the hangars available were full with airplanes.  We hope you didn't experience much damage at home.

So now that we have passed that "event", let's all move on to a much happier event - the Centennial Open House.  Hours of effort by staff and volunteers have been made to make this an appropriate celebration.  Please pass the word and share what we in the aviation community think is special and historic with the community.
See you on the 17th!

PRINCETON FALL ANTIQUES AND FINE ARTS SHOW

This Historical Society of Princeton is pleased to present the 2011 Princeton Fall Antiques and Fine Arts Show.  Taking place on September 24 & 25, 2011, this seventh annual event will transform 20,000 square feet of space at the Princeton Airport into an enchanting venue for 55 antiques and fine art dealers from around the U.S. and the U.K.  The Show will feature 18th-20th century American and European furniture, important paintings, textiles, jewelry, silver, ceramics, prints, Americana, folk art, decorative arts, vintage automobiles, and more.  This year's Show Café is presented by Max Hansen Caterers; the parking is free; and Show admission is $12.

Safety Corner by Assistant Chief Pete Rafle

I believe we can not spend enough time thinking about the "Decision Process". In planning for a flight, this involves all the obvious steps: aircraft readiness, airport information, NOTAMS, weather at departure, enroute, and destination, fuel required, route of flight and the "IMSAFE" items.

This past weekend is a good example of weather being such a major factor that the FAA precluded all the above by effectively grounding all non-essential flights. It seems obvious to me that given the wide spread effect of Irene over the east coast, why would pilots even think of making a flight in a G.A. airplane.

Ryan Vinton - FAAST Representative

Congratulations to Chief Pilot Ryan Vinton, who was appointed Princeton Airport's FAASTeam Representative. This will allow some of our future safety seminars to be counted for FAA WINGS Credits.

Is it worth-while?  Only 1% of those who goes through the Wings program have had accidents-now that's a mighty statistic.  More coming soon.

HAPPY 100 YEARS - 39N
1911 - 2011

From The Right Seat:

By Ryan Vinton, Chief Pilot

As the airport's new representative of the FAASTeam, I figured I would use my column this month to encourage student and licensed pilots alike to sign up and utilize an account at www.FAAsafety.gov.

The site features a multitude of training resources both online and off. You can choose from a selection of short online classes, most of which count as WINGS credits, on a variety of subjects. You can also search for in-person seminars in the local area to get out and meet fellow aviators the old fashioned in person way.

WINGS is a FAA program to improve safety by making training a continual process and it satisfies the requirements for a pilots flight review. Statistics show pilots who utilize the WINGS program to have superior safety records to aviators who simply get a BFR every two years.

Student pilots are also sure to benefit from the training offered at www.FAAsafety.gov. There's a lot to learn at the onset of flight training and this free resource can help you along the way to earning you "wings".
