 GREETINGS,

September is usually a busy month, however this one was full of happenings that made it pass by unusually fast.  The beautiful weather and unusual amount of activities made the airport a "fun" place to be.

We were visited by a prime minister; had a Wedding in the hangar; and the month culminated with the 5th Annual Arts & Antique Show.  None of this was aviation related, but it was sure fun.

We'll end the month with Halloween.  Dress up in a costume and receive at 10% discount on your flight or 10 cents a gallon discount.  Just a hat won't do!

On the aviation front, there are many good things happening.  So enjoy the great fall weather and a bit lower fuel prices.

39N LogoPRIME MINISTER OF TURKEY VISITS PRINCETON

If you came to 39N on Sept. 23, you would have thought you were in a foreign country as the airport had a full regalia of security, well armed.

The Prime Minister of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, gave a speech at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs entitled, "Building Global Peace".

First the escort helicopter arrived, a Sikorsky 76.  Then he arrived in a Sikorsky 92.  Awaiting on the ground and all over the airport property were security from federal, state, county and local law enforcement, alongside of Turkish security.
OUT WITH THE OLD - WELCOME NEW SIMULATOR!39N Logo

After years of fighting with the AT-610, we have finally decided to replace it with a modern simulator, TOP ELITE BASIC ATD.  It will be available for:
       2.5 hrs.  - Private
     10.0 hrs. - Instrument
       6 instrument approaches
      Pilot Proficiency Program
No matter the weather, we can earn hours on this FAA approved computer base simulator.  It should be up and running by the end of the month.

JOINS STAFF
Stripping the suits and ties, Steve has joined our staff to increase our services to you.  You might have seen him at the counter, on the fuel truck, and perhaps flying.  He is helping where-ever there is a need.

Congratulations
to Chief Mechanic Jeff Vamos & Julie, 39N Logo
who are the proud parents of twin girls, Stephanie & Sydney.
They join big brother, Logan.  You might see Jeff crawling into an airplane to get some zzzzzzzz.
From the Right Seat
by Chief Pilot Pete Rafle

I remember a safety poster that proclaimed, "Complacency Kills".  Complacency, as defined by Webster, is "pleased with oneself, self satisfied".
This feeling of pleasure, satisfaction while flying an airplane has two sides.  The quiet pleasure that can be gotten from flying can also distract you from consciously attending to the details of flying.  Attention to detail is critical to the safe outcome of each flight. Altitude control, maintaining heading, radio monitoring, and thinking and planning ahead must all be dealt with deliberately and consciously.
Do not let yourself be lulled into thinking that you can fly without being vigilant, all of the time, of all the tasks necessary for complete aircraft control.

Eric Batterman
After 3 years of hard work, Eric has finally finished and flown his experimental airplane, a Searey.  Normally, when he flies with his family, it is in a Saratoga, but this was his dream.  Many pilots start to build aircraft, however few ever complete the project.  Well done.

Assistant Chief Pilot:  Shannon Wea
Wednesday, October 28, 2009
7:00 - 10:00pm

As the days get shorter, don't let that interfere with your flying.  Being well prepared to fly at night can be very rewarding, and much quieter. Shannon will give you helpful hints.

PRINCETON AIRPORT
FLYING TIGERS
Another great day and adventure into the sun for the September fly-in to Montauk.  The 5 planes and 12 members and guests enjoyed the food at the Rick's Crabby Cowboy Restaurant as we sat outside watching the planes.

At our last meeting the revised by-laws were reviewed and approved by 2/3 of the membership and will take effect immediately.  A nomination committee has been named (Larry West, Steve Anasiewicz, and Dee Marsh) and will offer a slate of candidates at the November meeting for a 2 year term.   If you wish to volunteer, please contact one of these members.  Also a committee was named to set up a holiday party for the club.

We hope to see the changing colors of the landscape as we fly to Pittsfield, MA (KPSF)  for the October 18th fly-in hosted by member Raj Soni.

It is time for the annual dues of $20 if paid before 1/1/10 and $25 if paid after the New Year.  This is a great time to join the club if you have an interest in flying.  You don't have to be a pilot to join. See Dick Nierenberg our treasurer to pay or join. Visit our website www.paft-nj.org for details.
