Greetings,

As we approach this Holiday Season, we hope that you will take time out from the hub-bub and enjoy.  All in all this was a good year for flying despite the price of a barrel of oil.  39N culminates its activities with our Santa Fly-In.  If you have never been a part of this event, you are missing something special.  The giving part is probably more special than the Santa, although Santa does a great job.

We would like to wish you all a happy & healthy holiday season.

SANTA FLY IN - 2007
If you have been in the lobby in the last week or so, you should have seen two chimneys by the front door.  The day after Thanksgiving was the first day we accepted gifts and donations for the Needy.  And we have loaded up several leaf bags already.

Participants bring wrapped gifts for their children and unwrapped gifts for the needy.  By December 17th Mercer County Board of Social Services will pick up the unwrapped gifts and try to make the best match for each child.  These will arrive in time for Christmas.
You are welcome and encouraged to help fill the chimneys for the Needy.  We have become a major source for those less fortunate!

The Fly-In takes place on the 24th of December at 11:00 am.  Bring your children to the airport and in the maintenance hangar we will have Pat McKinley singing songs with everyone.  The Flying Tigers will help give out cookies and cocoa, as everyone await the 'lil Ole Man.

When Santa's approaching 39N we take everyone out of the hangar to watch him land.  (Santa, a.k.a. Ken Nierenberg, usually gives a low pass or two first to increase the excitement.)

After he lands everyone goes back into the hangar to receive their gifts.

Winter Flying Tips

Every year as the weather turns cold, we should re-examine how we operate airplanes in the harsher winter conditions.

When conducting your pre-flight inspection, Do Not turn on radios or lower the flaps, so that you save the battery power for starting.  After the engine is started, you can cycle the flaps.

Remove frost and snow from the wings and tail surfaces.  Use a towel or soft bristled brush or broom, being careful not to scratch the skin of the airplane.

The new New York Sectional chart just was issued.  We have all used the Trenton ASOS frequency of 133.7 for a long time.  It is now 126.77.
The chart still states it as 133.7  Stay informed.

WELCOME INSTRUCTORS

The availability of instructors nationwide has not change, so we are doing our best to serve you.  Although it might seem like a patchwork of CFIs, we still have the syllabus and the folders to tie everything together.  And Pete Rafle makes sure of that.

So, we are happy to announce the addition of a part-time instructor, Matthew Axelrod, who will be here on Tuesdays, when his duties as a cantor/rabbi are not required.  Welcome Matt.

Srivatsa Kota has expanded his days with us to include Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the weekends.  This too, should help.

We welcome back CFII Dean Tzitzis, who worked here last summer.  He is home for a month and knows our curriculum very well.

Happy Holidays

FLYING TIGERS

At the November dinner meeting our members enjoyed the exciting OSKOSH slide show presented by member Ralph Baron and we elected our 2008-2009 club officers (Ben Gazdowicz - President, Ernie Schirmer - Vice President, Cynthia Gilbert - Secretary and Dick Nierenberg - Treasurer).   Great weather finally arrived for the 4 planes and 8 members who enjoyed the November Fly-in to Reading, PA for a great lunch and a visit to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum.

During the Holiday Season our club supports "Santa's Fly-in" at Princeton Airport.  This is a fun way to volunteer your time in support of an activity that provides gifts to needy children.  Please sign up to support this effort on the PAFT website paft-nj.org.  Hope to see you on December 24th.
