Another casualty of this winter’s weather has been the PAFT’s fly-ins.  The scheduled flight to Westchester County was canceled.  (Just think-if we went we would just be getting back.)
March 12th: Dinner Meeting-Good Time Charlies, Rt. 27, Kingston.  We plan to have a speaker, and we will set the fly-in destination.
There is a group of PAFT members planning to fly to Sun ‘N Fun.  If anyone is interested in joining us, call Lou.  We will make every effort to accommodate you.
Jackets, hats, and shirts are available—call Steve.  609-466-4261.
Only 21 days ‘til Spring.

Text Box:   Tough Winter
We are all feeling the ramifications of this winter’s wrath.  When we put the picture of the new backhoe in last month’s newsletter, we hoped that would be protection from storms.  Well, it came in handy, but it sure was not fun.
Frequently people call to find out if the airport is open.  Every effort is made to get the airport open as soon as possible.  As airport manager, Ken has this responsibility and he was up during the storm starting to plow Sunday, and plow, and plow.  Help from others refined the process, and 39N was opened by Tuesday.  We were flying on Wednesday.  It was a yeoman's job.
Lessons have been canceled, classes have been postponed, and frustration is permeating the air.  But for John Wilman, Jake Samarya, Brendan McAndrew, Bryan Boyle, and more, it seems like an eternity.  Some of them have rescheduled the flight tests more times than fingers and now they are counting using their toes.  Their 60 days of training prior to the test have expired many times over.
Please visit us—we miss you.  It has been lonely.

If the weather weren’t bad enough, we are having the ill effects of the economy and the threat of war.  The oil industry jumps when the smallest thing happens.  The cost of low lead is climbing very rapidly, however the cost of Jet A is sky rocketing.  This is the last thing the aviation industry needs at this time, but we really have no alternatives.  Thus, we are reluctantly raising the retail rate of fuel, airplane rentals, and instruction as follows:
Fuel—As we get a new load
       Airplanes—C-152&172+$2.00/hr
                           C-172RG  + $3.00/hr
                  C-182       + $3.00/hr
Primary, commercial and instrument  instruction—$28.00/hr.

Happy 18th Anniversary to Us!
If you know this story, moved on to the next box.  For those who don’t know how we got here, read on.
The Nierenbergs had a 20 year lease to operate the FBO on the north side of Kupper Airport, beginning in 1967.  After years of building the services and facilities, we were facing the termination of our lease as well as a hostile landlord who wanted us out.  The problem was finding another airport.
Princeton Airport had been up for sale since the early ‘80s and none of the offers materialized.  One day, Ken came into Dick’s and Naomi’s office and said, “Let’s buy Princeton!”  We were really worried, but Ken pushed.  After two years of negotiations, we finally closed on March 29th, 1985.  (A miserably cold, wet, miserable day.)
Because 39N was for sale so long, there was hardly anything happening.  About 30 planes were based there; there was a skeletal staff, and service were few.
But we needed the revenues of 47N to help sustain us, so we operated both airports for two years—Dick was Princeton’s manager, Ken managed Kupper, and Naomi had a school at both facilities and commuted back and forth.  It was a very demanding time.
The reception of the aviation community at Princeton was great—the reception of the neighbors was immediately difficult.
But we overcame the challenges and moved forward, thanks to all of you who have helped along the way.
Come down and have some cake and coffee to celebrate our 18th Anniversary!

Text Box: The FAA  is very  concerned  about the increase of accidents at night.  They have directed designated examiners to begin flight tests later so that the student will complete at night.   If you haven’t had any night training in a while, call to make an appointment with a CFI.
