The spring's Private Ground School was taught by Chris Wilson, assisted by Chuck Taylor. The diligent group of men and women of this class worked hard for a little over 12 weeks. As of this writing 9 have successfully completed the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge test with an average score of 90.7%. You'll see them strutting their stuff ia special T-shirt.

Flush with success we have a sign-up at the counter and will begin another class as soon as 12 students are available. Although a class is not required, many students enjoy the classroom atmosphere and the fact that there is a discipline required. Cost: $75 to enrolled students.

Welcome to a Movie Star! A new base airplane is the replica of a Japanese Kate, which Skip Rawson and friends fly in air shows. If you saw "Tora, Tora, Tora" you know our star.

39N Alums-Recently we were visited by David Nawrocki, who instructed here in the mid-80s. Married, 3 kids later, Dave flies for Allegheny.

Interesting Facts for Keeping Current Charts, etc.

  1. Each Terminal Procedure Publication averages 75 changes every 56 days.
  2. Each Sectional Chart averages 280 changes every 6 months.
  3. Each AFD volume averages 780 changes every 56 days.
  4. The FAA requires that you have current information!

Congratulations! graduates of high schools, county colleges, colleges and graduate schools. Keep in touch Jason, Kristin, Michael, Clark, Ryan, Abby, and all the rest of you - good luck as you embark on your new paths and keep flying!

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), who print and distribute the sectionals, WACs, etc. has advised us on some interesting upcoming features.

VFR Airport sketches are now being added incrementally to the AFDs, featuring buildings, airport road patterns, vegetation features, symbology used for wind socks and rotating beacons. They will be focusing on VFR airports with single runway at least 3000' and IAP airports. That should include us in the near future.

Princeton Airport Shines at Aviation Conference

On May 5, The Division of Aeronautics held its annual aviation conference at McGuire Air Force Base. Entitled, "Hands Across the Runway", the sessions were aimed at improving airport and community relations.

The day started with those aiports facing the most contention from its hos communities. Brave representatives explained their perceptions. The mid-day talks had those working hard to agree.

The afternoon session featured the success stories. We were honored to be addressed by Mary LeTard, Mayor of Montgomery Township. Ken and Naomi Nierenberg and the airport attorney, Tom Hall, sat with smiles from ear to ear. Who would have though this possible in the early '90s when lawsuits were the daily operations.

AOPA President, Phil Boyer, addressed the luncheon about New Jersey's airports and AOPA's role in saving those in danger. He still doesn’t get it as far as 39N is concerned and could not explain its lack of support. Fortunately we were able to succeed despite AOPA.

Remember Dad and Grad!

Want or Need a Mentor?

At a recent mentors' meeting it was decided to expand the program. While all students face peaks and valleys during their training, some have no one to share these moments. Would you like a soft shoulder to rely on? A "big sister or brother pilot" would listen. Look for the hot pink notices and sign up! Then someone will call you.

June 21st - The first day of summer and the longest day of the year… ENJOY!!!

Welcome Aboard Staff

Greeting you on the phone and in person are Abby Michaels, Vasilios (Vas) Avramidas, and Jordan Rickards. They are "in training" and are doing a great job. Please be clear with your directions and your name until they learn to speak "aviation" and know you.

Princeton Airport's Flying Tigers

The May 12 meeting at The Winepress was well attended. The members enjoyed food, drink, and a slide/video from Sun 'N Fun.

Next Fly In: Williamsburg, Virginia

June 13 (JGG-213nm), ETA-11 a.m.

For history buffs, this trip is not to be missed. We plan on brunching at one of the period eateries followed by a walking tour of this historic village. Please sign up on the PAFT Bulletin Board in the lobby.

Mark your calendars for the July 11 PAFT Annual Picnic. Watch for more details on the bulletin board. This culinary event alone is worth the dues.
