*Gary graduated from Rutgers and he is entering the Air Force where he will continue his training. RVFS received the contract to provide him with his initial 40 hours of training. The Air Force finds this process is more cost efficient. You might see others standing candidates tall!
Airport Watch:
If you are in the proximity of the airport, drive in. Keep an eye out for unwanted visitors. Some of our base airplanes have had the radios stolen. The burglars have been hopping from one airport to another, including ours.
If you see something suspicious, call the police. Tampering with an airplane is a federal crime - all we have to do is catch them.
Eastern Standard Time:
We will keep the building open until 6:00 p.m. The last lesson of the day for daylight begins at 4:30. The demand for scheduling becomes much more intense, especially on the weekends. Please be prompt so all on the schedule can get to fly. Note: The clocks move forward April 2nd, 2000!
Food For The Needy:
Our annual Food Drive will begin in early November in time for Thanksgiving. Even though New Jersey is enjoying great economic times, the demand has been heightened by the ravages of Hurricane Floyd. Bring your contribution and place it in the basket in the lobby. We will take it to the Food Bank for distribution in time for the holiday. Deadline: November 18th.
Thanksgiving Day - November 25th
VFR: Open until 1:00p.m.
IFR: Closed
Please make arrangements for fuel and services ahead of time.
EAT THE BIRD!
Cold Weather Starting Procedures
To those of you who learned to fly in the south or earned you license during the spring/summer, cold weather starting procedures are different! Please don't crank those engines until the battery dies - get help. Talk to an instructor, Ken or Dick. They will be glad to assist. 24V batteries are almost $300.
Check Out The Construction!!!
As you read this newsletter, thousands
of tons of stone have been arriving for the foundation of the new runway. There
will be a
12" stone base for those 747s (only kidding). The initial blacktop will be
starting soon. The new runway will have radio activated lights and a lighted
taxiway. It is starting to look like a "real" runway.
Pilots that fly into Princeton are very impressed that we are still here, let alone expanding. They remember very well the battles that were fought to get to this point. It is exciting. Hopefully the winter will pass quickly and you will land on it soon.
That Busy Time of Year is Here Again:
Mark your calendar for the upcoming events as the holidays are around the corner.
The big event is our Annual Santa Fly-In on Christmas Eve Day. We have been doing this for almost 30 years. Bring a wrapped gift for your child. For each of your children's gifts, please bring an unwrapped gift for a needy child to be distributed by the county. (Remember Hurricane Floyd).
On Christmas Eve day Santa, alias Ken, will fly in with the gifts for distribution. The Pilot's Club assists with cookies and cocoa, and there is entertainment while the kids and parents await Santa's arrival.
If you haven't attended, you are missing a great event. If you would like to volunteer, we can use a hand.
Hint: Gifts are distributed in the order we receive them. Wrap siblings gifts in the same paper and tie together.
And a Ho, Ho, Ho to you!
